Fave Five and Coffee 4.1.11

Happy Friday! It's time to look back at the week and pick some favorite things. Visit Susanne at Living To Tell The Story for the details. I'm also joining the Company Girls Coffee blog hop hosted by Rachel Anne at Home Sanctuary.

Here are the highlights from my week.

Time to read. I finished lady in Waiting by Susan Meissner. She is a new to me author, I heard good reviews about this book and I wasn't disappointed. It was really good!

Girl talk! My
friend Michelle from The Writtings on the Wallflowers came over for a visit. She brought this to show me. Michelle hand painted it! She also had a bird's nest and a flower! Amazing!

My furry friend. Max has me well trained. I was putting on my shoes to walk on the treadmill yesterday and he started whining at me. I asked him if he wanted to go outside and went to the back door.
He stopped at his toy box, where we keep his leash. I asked again, he didn't move. I told him I wasn't walking outside but he started prancing around and went to the front door. We walked outside. After one lap around the block I brought him back to the drive way to take him in the house. He wouldn't walk up to the house. At the end of the second lap he planted his feet and pulled backward as we turned up our street. We finally made it to the drive way, got half way to the house before he used all 20 pounds of his little body to delay going into the house. Yep, Max has me trained well.

Crossing things off the to do list. I didn't finish the projects, I just decided they didn't need to be done. The first was knitted net scrubbies. I used to find them at craft fairs and loved them. I thought I can make those, yes I can, but I don't want to any more. The other was re-hemming the living room shears. They don't hang perfectly in the window. By the time the kids and the dog push them aside to look out they aren't ever going to hang "perfectly" anyway, so I'm moving on.

Journals. I have had a journal sporadically for as long as I can remember. Sometimes more sporadically than others, but I made time this week to do some writing. Nothing important really, kind of like my blog. I enjoy physically writing in the journal, it's calming for me, helps me think through whatever is going on and I have a record of progress I've made with struggles.

Those are my favorite things from the past week! What were your highlights from the past week?

Thanks to Rachel and Susanne for hosting the fun!

Sounds like a great week! Your friend is VERY talented, I do not have an artistic bone in my body! :(

I am a sporadic journal writer myself...about once every 2 years! :) I have begun to keep a prayer journal, again, not religiously, but it has been a blessing to see how God is working as I read through it!

I think most dogs have their owners trained well. :o)

I love a list and operate off of one all the time. I seem to be more productive that way.

Blessings for a great weekend!

I have heard of the book but have not read it.

Looks great! And I love girl talk.

My little ones have me well-trained. It's tough when they're cute.

I am a to-do checklist type of person too. Love crossing stuff off.

I love journaling but don't do it on a consistent basis either.

I've not heard of that book. Always love a great recommendation though.

No animals at this house. My kids beg but I just can't deal with a dog (which is the animal we will likely end up with one day). I have 6 children training me...I certainly don't need a dog doing it too :)

I'm sporadic with my list making. I'm coming to rely on them more and more. It's just necessary for my sanity.

Thanks for the visit!
Have a blessed weekend!

I love that you decided "some things just don't need to be done" -- ha! That's my kind of list-making/list-finishing. . .good for you. I just heard a quote tonight that I love "Perfect is the enemy of Good". Have a great weekend!

Sometimes to do things just need to be crossed off whether they are done or not. Good for you for recognizing that a couple of yours were not to be done at this time.

Susan Meissner quickly became one of my favorite authors. Have you read "Shape of Mercy'? Such a good story.
So is "White Picket Fences".

i'm still waiting on that time to read... and love that you decided that some things don't have to be done. I'm working on a whole post about that very topic!

Lists, lists, lists. I have so many lists and on almost all of them there are things that just won't get done. Almost every day there is exercising not getting done and no my dog has not trained me very well. I just hope she goes potty while she is outside now playing with the kid because I am too busy spring cleaning to walk her today.

I definitely can relate to journaling with a pen in hand. It is calming. It does help me sort out things. And sometimes I see progress, too.

Hmmm. My favorite five from this past week: 1) a date with hubby on Thursday night with other adult couples listening to really great music; 2) a long walk with my children (we did 3 miles & I was adventourous off-road with them); 3) running 10 miles on a gorgeous sunshiny day - I did it! I felt good! Amazing! ; 4) being affirmed in my new tutoring job and connecting more with some of the other tutors; 5) hearing how other women were blessed by the women's retreat I helped coordinate the weekend prior

I'm impressed your dog made it so far. Our dog is always very excited for walks, but doesn't make it far at all before I'm having to nearly drag him home.

Sounds like you had a good week, hope you have a good weekend as well.

I have a journal too, but it's been a while since I last wrote in it. Maybe I should one of these days!

The necklace is lovely - esp. that it is handpainted.

I like your way of crossing things off the 'to do' list. Sometimes re-evaluating is the smartest thing to do.

I also journal sporadically - but in general, I have some sort of journal going all the time. Some days it is my line to sanity.

Glad you joined us today! I'm going to check out some of the blogs below.

Well trained owners are very special :) and should be highly valued by their pets.

Oh I love your idea of a to do list. I'm off to check on mine right now for items that I can declare 'finished'.

I enjoy the writings of Susan Meissner...I have several of her books but not that one...I'll have to keep my eye out for it. I have two big dogs but I'm afraid they are too big for me to walk...I keep telling myself that when it gets warmer I'll walk outside...yes, I keep telling myself that....sigh..

I guess the doggy knew best! I hope it was a nice walk!.

That pendant is beautiful!

I'm glad you had time to read and journal. I love both.

I just read an article about crossing off the things that really aren't important, and using that time to enjoy our blessings instead. Good for you!
