Random Thoughts

I was surfing the web for quotes, something inspirational, motivational or just something new when I found a quote I really liked. "It's better to get something done than to do nothing perfectly". Ok, that's not the real quote, that is my twist on it. Here is the real quote...

Better to do something imperfectly than to do nothing flawlessly.
-Robert Schuller

But either way it got me thinking about perfectionism. Perfectionism is by Webster's definition, setting extremely high standards and being displeased with anything less. Sounds like a perfect set-up for failure. I wonder how many things I don't try because I think it won't be perfect or even good enough? Good enough for who? Who's standards am I trying to achieve? I wonder how much happier and relaxed I would be if I just let my best be good enough? Even when it isn't perfect.

These were all questions I asked myself while mowing the lawn. Some activities do lend themselves to multitasking. My kids karate class starts with them saying "be my best" not "be perfect". So, this week as a personal challenge, I'm going to let my best be good enough and see how it turns out.

No one is perfect...that's why pencils have erasers.

Very good thoughts, Jen. I love that last quote.
